Grandparents House A Home Away From Home As I approach the turn to my Grandparents house, my stomach turns inanticipation of the cherubic sugar cookie smell that a stops. I turn up the doggednarrow gravel road and park my car in front of their house. I step turn out-of-door anda chilly little centering bites at my cheeks. I take a deep breath and the sweetlysmell of burning cedar enters my nose. I look up to the chimney and see thegray puffs of smoke scatter as it hits the still wintertime air. I shut the cardoor and follow the sidewalk to the game door. I open the door and a child-likesmile immediately spreads crosswise my face.Before I clear even get my shoes off, my nanna greets me with her usual warmhello. I smile back at her and wonder what shes been up to. But I dont evenneed to ask, I can already smell the fresh bread thats been baking in theoven. I get up to go to the kitchen, and her pug, Mack, jumps up and tries tolick my hand. My grandma follows me into the kitchen to accept some impatient tea. Isit on the counter as my grandma makes the tea. Some of my best Christmasmemories are of making cookies with my grandma in that very kitchen. We get ourtea and go back to the dining room. I sit at the t fit and listen to mygrandmas day. She tells me that her and grandpa finally got the Christmas manoeuvre diagramup, and all of the decorations put on it, and that after lunch, grandpa is goingoutside to hang up all of the icicle lights. I set my tea land and go into theliving room to check out the tree.She turns on the lights, and the tree lights up like the one in the RockefellerCenter. I take a closer look and am still able to pick out some ornaments Igave her when I was a little girl. My grandma co... ...ed proficient on over and latched onto the fence, only this time,it was operating in full force. punish as I might, I just couldnt let go.Finally, I was able to pull back my crispy black palm. Although my cousin na lwaysbelieved this ever happened, he figured if it did, if was pretty good paybackfor taking him to dissemble with the horses. We go back inside and grandma already has some hot tea waiting for us. We sitin the living room and start the end of the Bronco game. After its over, Ifigure I damp toss home. I stare at the Christmas tree as I walk back throughthe living room. Its just the beginning of December, and already I cant waitfor Christmas to get here. I hug my grandparents and head out the door. As Islowly drive away, I act up to look at their house in my rearview mirror. Icant wait to come back tomorrow, to my home away from home.
